Shangri-La
Shangri-La is James Hilton's fictional Himalayan paradise. It was probably based on the Buddhist mythical city of Shambala. Most likely, both are linked to the actual city of Tsaparang, which was the fortress capital of the Tibetan kingdom of Guge. Guge lasted from 1000 AD until 1630 AD and was a major cultural center of Tibetan Buddhism.
